Why this part & setup notes
    • Default Enthusiast pick: camera + radar sensor beside the ball, works in a 15 ft deep room, and moves to the other side of the ball for a left-handed golfer.
    • Current manufacturer promotion (checked 31 October 2026): the $1,695 ST MAX price includes 1 year of SkyTrak Core Foresight course play at $0 ($300/yr renewal from Year 2). SkyTrak’s listing gives no end date, so confirm the offer before you buy. Course play needs an M1+ iPad or a Windows PC.

    Aspect ratio
    Screen: 1:1 square (8×8 ft kit, 86.5 in. ≈ 7.2 ft viewable, AVI-SPL) · Projector: BenQ TH671ST, 16:9 native (0.69–0.83 throw ratio, BenQ)
    Throw distance
16:9 across the full width (~7.2 × 4.1 ft): lens ~5.0–6.0 ft from the screen, leaving ~19 in. unlit bands at the top and bottom. Full 1:1 square height (7.2 ft): lens ~8.8–10.6 ft from the screen.
    Setup limitation
An iPad cannot send a custom 1:1 square resolution, so expect a 16:9 picture across the middle of the screen. You also need a USB-C or Lightning to HDMI adapter. For a full top-to-bottom fill, use a Windows gaming PC.
    • Throw ratio is the lens-to-screen distance divided by the picture width; the mounting check above works it out for this screen.

    • To show an iPad on the projector you need a USB-C or Lightning digital AV (HDMI) adapter, an HDMI cable long enough to reach the ceiling, and a projector ceiling mount. These are not in the totals; add the allowance below to include them.

How the price tiers workThe 13 launch monitors in our October 2026 catalog are grouped by price: Budget (4 models, $500–$700), Enthusiast (4 models, $1,299–$2,500) and Premium (5 models, from $3,999). Each card opens on that tier’s default model. The dropdown lists all 13, so you can pick any of them.

How to choose a planIncluded app: the maker’s own software at no yearly cost. Maker plans add features or course packs for a yearly fee. GSPro is third-party course software at $250 a year, plus any plan the maker requires before it connects. SkyTrak owners: Essential has no course packs, Core Foresight or Core TrackMan adds one studio’s pack, and Elite has both.

Short-throw projectorProjector$949

Why a short-throw projector?Throw ratio is the distance from the lens to the screen divided by the image width. A short-throw projector, about 0.5 to 0.8, fills an impact screen from a few feet away, so it can be ceiling-mounted close to the hitting mat. That keeps your body and club out of the beam, so they don’t cast a shadow on the screen.

Computer to run your simulatorGaming PC, tablet or cloud PC$0

What is a cloud gaming PC?GSPro runs on Windows only, so a cloud PC has to be a Windows machine with a graphics card (a GPU instance, such as Shadow PC or Paperspace), not a Mac host such as MacStadium. The monthly fee adds to your running costs every year. Your launch monitor stays at home and reaches the cloud PC through a local bridge app or USB-over-IP forwarding; check that your maker supports it.

Replacement prices from our 3-year cost guide, checked 30 October 2026: Fiberbuilt Flight Deck hitting panel for the Practice Station $99 (Fiberbuilt), Titleist Pro V1 RCT balls $70 a dozen (Fairway Jockey), Carl’s Place Standard 8×8 impact screen $227.95 (PlayBetter). How often you replace each one is N/C, so they are not added to the totals.

For scale: a PC and projector at about 0.6 kW, 2.5 hours a day on 300 days, use about 450 kWh a year, roughly $77 to $135 at 17 to 30 cents per kWh. That is illustrative arithmetic from our 3-year cost of ownership guide, not a measurement.

How the estimate is worked out

The example build’s $4,633 ($4,632.89 exact) is the 4-part core hardware subtotal before tax: launch monitor, screen kit, mat and projector, with a compatible iPad you already own. It leaves out mounting hardware, cables, shipping and room preparation, which the Realistic Installed figure adds. Software adds $0/yr for the included driving-range app. It matches the baseline parts list in our $5,000 garage simulator guide. The SkyTrak ST MAX is priced at its $1,695 sale price. Across the five priced setups in our ownership guide, three-year totals run from $3,198.94 to $17,244.99. Prices come from makers and dealers, checked October 2026.

How the totals are counted
  • The headline shows two totals side by side. Core equipment is the launch monitor, screen or net, mat, projector and any computer you buy, before tax: $4,633 ($4,632.89 exact) for the example, with an M1+ iPad you already own. Realistic installed budget adds what the core figure leaves out: a $150 mount, cables and adapter allowance, $150 shipping, $350 basic room preparation and a 6% example sales tax on the hardware, about $5,570 for the example (the cables allowance is hardware, so it is taxed too). Click either total to switch the receipt between them; your own tax rate and allowances under Advanced Customization replace the examples.
  • First-year, 3-year and 5-year totals add the software you chose for each year: $0 for included software, the maker’s plan, or GSPro at $250 plus any plan GSPro requires for that unit.
  • Room checks follow the room standard in our setup guide: a 9 ft ceiling, 12 ft of width for an offset mat and 15 ft of depth at minimum; 10 ft, 15 ft and 16 ft for comfort, a centred mat and radar.
  • SkyTrak’s current ST MAX promotion includes the first year of Core Foresight (SkyTrak’s listing, checked 31 October 2026: “Get 1 Year Free Core (FS) Membership with an ST MAX Purchase”). With the ST MAX and Core Foresight, Year 1 software counts $0 and $299.99 a year from Year 2: $599.98 over three years and $1,199.96 over five. You can switch the promotion off under Launch monitor & software; a used unit is never counted with it.
  • Cost over time sets the selected items beside a realistic ownership estimate: the same build plus a $150 mount/cable allowance, $500 shipping and basic room preparation, a 6% example sales tax and $200 a year for electricity and wear, wherever your build has none of its own. For a range-only build it also shows the totals with course play.
  • Projection surface: the cheapest complete projected setup uses a Carl’s Place Standard 8×8 Classic impact screen ($227.95, PlayBetter) hung in front of the Rukket net. The “your own flat white wall” option counts no screen at all, so it is never recommended on its own.
  • Launch monitor tiers group the 13 units by price; each tier opens on one model, and the dropdown lists every unit.
  • Allowances stand in where no single listing exists: $500 for a used gaming PC and $50 a month ($600 a year) for a cloud PC rental, which counts as a running cost alongside software.
  • Optional real-world allowances are off until you switch them on, so the example stays at the equipment price. Shipping ($150 or $350), room preparation ($350, $1,200 or $3,000) and installation labor ($450 or $1,500) add to the Day-1 total without tax. Consumables, power and wear ($200 or $450 a year) add to every year of the 1-, 3- and 5-year totals. Each one is an XS Golf allowance, an estimate and not a quote.
  • Buying condition defaults to the current verified prices, which already include sale prices where a dealer lists one, re-checked 31 October 2026: SkyTrak ST MAX $1,695 against $2,995 list (PlayBetter), Rapsodo MLM2PRO $549.99 against $699.99 (Rapsodo), Bushnell Launch Pro $2,499.99 against $2,999.99 (PlayBetter) and Foresight GC3 $3,999 against $6,999 (Foresight). The SIG10’s $1,599.99 sale had ended, so “Lowest verified sale prices” changes nothing today. “Used / refurbished” applies our allowances: 20% below the current price for a launch monitor, $550 for a 1080p short-throw projector and $500 for a gaming PC.
  • Financing table applies the standard loan payment formula to the upfront total at two example rates, 10% and 15% APR. It is arithmetic for reference, not a credit offer.

These are estimates, not quotes. Software is shown before tax; GSPro lists $250 a year plus any applicable taxes. XS Golf did not physically test these products.

Cables, an HDMI adapter and a projector ceiling mount are counted only if you add the $150 allowance under the projector or switch on the realistic extras. Unless you add the allowances above, the totals leave out shipping, room preparation, installation, electricity, insurance and replacement screens or hitting strips. Our 3-year cost of ownership guide covers those costs.

Golf simulator cost: common questions

How much does a home golf simulator cost?

In our October 2026 catalog, complete practice builds start at $1,338.98 (a Square Golf launch monitor, a Rukket practice net and a Fiberbuilt mat, run on a device you already own). Our $5,000 garage build comes to $4,632.89 in hardware with a SkyTrak ST MAX, a Carl’s Place impact screen kit and a BenQ short-throw projector, and a premium studio with a Foresight GC3 and a SIG10 enclosure starts at $9,246.99. Sales tax and any software subscription come on top.

How much does it cost to play virtual golf courses at home?

Course play needs course software. The lowest complete course build in our catalog is $3,015.93 upfront: a Square Golf, a Rukket net with a Carl’s Place Standard 8×8 impact screen ($227.95, PlayBetter), a BenQ TH671ST projector, a Fiberbuilt Practice Station and a used gaming PC allowance, plus $250 a year for GSPro, so the first year comes to $3,265.93. Projecting onto a smooth, flat white wall you already have instead of buying the screen takes $227.95 off, to $2,787.98 upfront ($3,037.98 in the first year). On the $5,000 garage build, SkyTrak currently includes the first year of its Core Foresight course plan with the ST MAX, so the first year stays at $4,632.89 and the plan renews at $299.99 a year from Year 2.

Do I need a gaming PC for a golf simulator?

It depends on the software. GSPro runs only on a Windows 10 or 11 PC. SkyTrak course play needs an iPad with an M1 chip or newer, or a Windows PC, and iPhones are not supported for course play (SkyTrak’s requirements, checked October 2026). If you don’t own a suitable device, the calculator adds a $500 used gaming PC allowance or a $940 new 1080p PC in one click.

Does SkyTrak work with GSPro?

Only through an unofficial community connector that neither GSPro nor SkyTrak supports, so the calculator never recommends it. SkyTrak’s own course plans are Core Foresight plan at $299.99 a year, Core TrackMan plan at $349.99 a year and Elite plan at $599.99 a year (PlayBetter, October 2026).

How much room do I need for a golf simulator?

Our setup guide uses at least 15 ft of depth, 12 ft of width and a 9 ft ceiling for a launch monitor that sits beside the ball. Radar units that sit behind the golfer need more depth: PlayBetter, a Full Swing dealer, gives 16 ft as the minimum room depth for the Full Swing KIT. The calculator checks the depth, width and ceiling you enter against the parts you choose.

What does the estimate leave out?

Installation, shipping, room preparation, electricity and optional accessories. Cables, an HDMI adapter and a projector ceiling mount are counted only if you add the $150 allowance. Sales tax is applied to the hardware only, at the rate you enter.

Does XS Golf offer financing?

No. XS Golf does not provide financing. The financing table is reference arithmetic at two example rates, not a credit offer; actual terms depend on the retailer and a credit check.
