Pebble Beach Golf Travel Guide 2026: America’s Most Iconic Golf Destination
Pebble Beach is golf’s most recognisable address. The 18th hole running along Stillwater Cove, the 7th hole’s cliffside green above the Pacific, the cypress trees framing every shot on the back nine — no course on earth has produced more iconic images of the sport. It has hosted six US Opens and a Champions Tour event annually since 1937. Every serious golfer needs to play it once.
The courses
Pebble Beach Golf Links — Rating: 10/10 — $625
The most famous golf course in the United States. The routing along the Monterey Peninsula cliffside — holes 4 through 10 along the Pacific Ocean — is the most dramatic sustained stretch of seaside golf in America. The 7th hole, 106 yards across a cliff edge to a tiny green surrounded by ocean on three sides, is the most photographed short hole on earth. Green fee: $625 for resort guests. Worth every cent if you go once. Worth every cent again if you go twice.
Booking strategy: Non-resort-guest tee times release 18 months in advance at pebblebeach.com. Resort guest booking opens earlier — staying at The Lodge or The Inn at Spanish Bay unlocks the full window. At $625/round, the $600–900/night accommodation premium is proportionally justified for a bucket-list trip of this significance.
Spyglass Hill — Rating: 9.3/10 — $425
Robert Trent Jones Sr.’s 1966 design begins in the Monterey cypress forest and descends toward the ocean before turning back inland. The opening five holes through the forest are among the most challenging par-4-and-5 stretches in Northern California golf. Slope rating 148. Green fee: $425 — the best value of the three main Pebble Beach Company courses. Ideal as the second round of a multi-day trip.
Cypress Point — Rating: 9.8/10 — Members only
Alister MacKenzie’s 1928 masterpiece is not accessible to the public. Approximately 250 members. Guest access through member invitation only. The 16th hole across 219 yards of Pacific Ocean is the most discussed single hole in golf course architecture history. If you know a member, pursue it. Otherwise it remains what it has always been for most golfers — the greatest course you will never play, visible from the 17-Mile Drive.
Spanish Bay Golf Links — Rating: 8.6/10 — $325
The most links-style experience at Pebble Beach — designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., Sandy Tatum, and Tom Watson. Routing through Del Monte Forest and coastal dunes rewards a ground game. A bagpiper plays at sunset on the 18th green. Green fee: $325 — the most affordable and most replayable of the three main courses.
When to go and green fee budget
May and September are optimal. June, July and August suffer from the marine layer — coastal fog that can sit through midday, particularly in June. May offers spring conditions at slightly lower rates than summer peak. September delivers post-summer crowd reduction with warm afternoon temperatures.

Simulator prep
Three things to prepare in your simulator. Long iron precision — the 17th at 178 yards and the 7th at 106 yards both punish distance misses more than directional ones. Practice exact yardage control in your home simulator. Cliff-edge mental preparation — the 8th tee shot across a cliff corner at 185 yards produces genuine vertigo on first visits; know the hole shapes before you arrive. Wind management — Pacific coast afternoon winds build to 20-25mph by the back nine. Same punch-shot drills as links golf apply. Our simulator software guide covers which platforms include the licensed Pebble Beach course for pre-trip preparation.
