Garmin Approach R10 Review 2026: Best Portable Launch Monitor
Last updated: September 18, 2026
The Garmin Approach R10 is the best portable launch monitor at $599 in 2026. Placed 6–8 feet behind the ball, it captures 12 data parameters via a small radar unit that fits in a jacket pocket. Independent reviews put its ball speed close to premium units: Plugged In Golf found it rarely off by more than about 1 mph against a GCQuad, while Golfalot measured driver ball speed running roughly 4 mph fast. That is meaningful enough for practice feedback, not accurate enough for club fitting. For the golfer who wants range data without building a simulator room, the R10 is the rational choice.

What we like
- Genuinely portable — fits in any golf bag side pocket
- 12 data parameters at $599 is exceptional value
- E6 Connect integration: 42,000+ courses for range simulation
- 10-hour battery: survives a full day of range sessions
What we don’t
- No spin measurement — spin is estimated, not measured directly
- Outdoor-primary: indoor accuracy is reduced without specific calibration
- E6 Connect subscription is $99/year on top of device cost
- Driver ball speed measured about 4 mph fast against a GCQuad by Golfalot — adequate for practice, not club fitting
XS Golf verdict
The R10 is the correct launch monitor for golfers who practice outdoors at a range, want data feedback without building a room, and are comfortable with estimated spin. At $599 it delivers genuine practice value. For indoor simulator use or club fitting, the SkyTrak MAX is the better choice.
Buy if: You practice primarily outdoors, want portable data, and the $599 price is appropriate for your play frequency.
Avoid if: You want to build an indoor simulator — the SkyTrak MAX is the correct choice for that application.
